On-boarding is a process that involves learning, networking, assigning resources, defining goals, and
strategizing so that new hires can quickly reach their optimum productivity.
(Bauer, T. N., & Erdogan B, 2011).
The onboarding
process is defined as "acquiring, accommodating, assimilation, and
accelerating new team members, whether they come from outside of the
organization or within it," to start. It is a term used to describe the
administrative labor needed to set up a worker in a new position or capacity (Vijai,M
& Karoline,K.M,2017).
The new hires are assimilated to the policies, practices,
rewards, expectations, and objectives of the company through this official
on-boarding process. On-boarding is more than just filling out the necessary
papers and reading the lengthy, tedious employee manual. It involves
integrating a new employee so that they may contribute significantly to the
organization. The process of onboarding immerses a new employee in the
organization's culture.
According to staffing and HR experts, onboarding new
hires at an organization should be a planned process that lasts at least a year
because high retention depends on how employers handle the initial few days and
months of a new employee's experience (Roy,M.2020).
Building a successful team involves more than just
selecting the top individuals for open jobs in any company. One of the most
important aspects in determining whether freshly hired talent will be
productive, happy employees is the onboarding process for new hires.
The Society for Human Resource Management defines onboarding as the process by which new employees become quickly and easily used to all parts of their positions and learn the Skills and behaviors necessary to function well within a company(Roy,M.2020).
Importance
of Employee Onboarding
According to the David,B.(2023) onboarding
importance for employee retention, productivity and engagement.
According
to the Sanjay, P.(2020) Here are some
benefits of having an employee onboarding process:
1. Faster Induction
You will
have a roadmap available once you have created an employee onboarding
procedure. By following the order of the steps in the onboarding process, you
can finish everything more quickly. This would result in a quick and
well-planned induction of the new employee. A successful and quick induction
will result in a happier and more active workplace environment.
2.Reduces employees anxiety
Onboarding procedures are typically unknown to employees because they vary greatly from company to company. Additionally, it's possible that employees go through very few onboarding procedures over the course of their careers. Employees will form a positive, long-lasting impression of your company if your HR department has designed a superb onboarding experience. They go from being merely an employee to becoming one of your assets at this point.
3. Creates a great first impression
4. Delivers Core values and Mission
Your
company has a mission and a future vision that were derived from some key
beliefs. The onboarding procedures alone might help you bring your workers'
thinking into line with that of your company. The staff will be initially
interested in learning more about your company. They have a greater attention
span as a result. On their journey with your firm, they will adjust to your
fundamental beliefs and ideals.
Conclusion:
The practice of
consciously and methodically converting new hires into high-performing
employees is known as employee onboarding. By acquainting them with the
workplace environment and culture, organizations give new hires guidance.
Additionally, it entails completing the necessary documentation as well as an
orientation procedure that walks them through the organization's goal, vision,
and values. As a result, the onboarding process for new workers is more
purposeful and aids in helping employees comprehend their main responsibilities
and how to carry them out beginning with their regular chores. One of the most
crucial elements in making sure a new hire stays with our firm for a long time
is the employee on-boarding process, which is the first step in employee
engagement and a company's retention strategy.
